September 24-28, 2008, Beijing, China or

Upon numerous requests for postponing the deadlines of paper submissi
ons and special session
proposals, we extended deadlines to:
Special session proposal submission: March 30, 2008
Paper submission: April 15, 2008
Other deadlines remain unchanged as before.

Following the successes of previous events, the fifth International S
ymposium on Neural
Networks (ISNN2008) will be held in Beijing, which has been the capit
al of China for
about five hundred years, and is now one of the largest international
cities in the world.
Nowadays, as the cultural, educational and high-tech centre of the na
tion, Beijing
possesses many world-class conference facilities, communication infra
and hotels, and has successfully hosted many important international
In addition, Beijing is an ideal place for sightseeing. Its rich cult
ure and historical
attractions such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Pa
lace, and the
Temple of Heaven will provide participants with unique opportunities
for social activities.
Besides, the 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing during Aug. 8
-24 and the Paralympic
Games will be held during Sept. 6-17. You are cordially invited to wi
tness these great feasts.
We will organize participants to visit the Olympic venues during or a
fter the Symposium.

All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field based o
n the criteria of
originality, significance, quality, and clarity. The authors of accep
ted papers will have an
opportunity to revise their papers and take consideration of the refe
rees' comments and suggestions.
Papers presented at ISNN2008 will be published in Springer Lecture No
tes in Computer Science (LNCS)
and will be indexed by EI Compendex. Some selected top papers will be
included in special issues of
several journals. Up to now, the following journals have approved to
publish special issues for ISNN2008:

Cognitive Neurodynamics,
International Journal of Computational Intelligent Systems,
International Journal of Systems Control and Communications,
International Journal of Software Science and Computational Intel
Tsinghua Science and Technology (English Version),

In addition, we are negotiating with the following journals for possi
ble special issues:
Information Science
Soft Computing
Neural Computation & Applications
KES Journal
IES Journal B--Intelligent Devices and Systems

ISNN 2008 Program Committees also solicit proposals for special sessi
ons within the
technical scopes of the symposium. A special session proposal should
include the
session title, a brief description of the scope and motivation, names
, contact information and brief
biographical information on the organizers. Potential organizers are
invited to enlist
five or more papers with cohesive topics to form special sessions. Pa
pers submitted for
special sessions are to be peer-reviewed with the same criteria used
for the contributed papers.
